Canine infancy lasts from birth to five months of age.
All learning at this level of development is permanent. We tell our client's
that "the first year lasts forever", and whatever socialization and training
the dog did get, or more importantly did not get will affect the dog for the
rest of his life.
From our experience, puppies (puppy hood lasts from
7 weeks of age to 5 months of age) that miss out on early obedience, early
intensive socialization, and other civilized skills, tend to be the dogs that
develop aggressive or/and fear-based problems at adulthood.
Most puppies by the age of 8 weeks are ready for the
Level 1 Training Module: Bonding. The components of this module create the
behavioral-relationship foundation for the dog/human relationship for the next
ten to fifteen years.
