DOGS DON'T USE COOKIES

Dogs don't use cookies, pats or praise in their culture. Dogs are physical: they lick, they bite, they push, they shove and they poke. Instead use Dingo Lingo; the dog's own language, culture and customs to educate and rehabilitate. Not cookies or clickers or collars and leashes.

DOGS AND ESP

I use touch, tone, and telepathy. Barbara Woodhouse

HOW DOGS GROW UP

Dogs grow up slow. They need time to ripen and reach their full potential. A dog is sexually mature at 6 months of age, a dog is physically mature at 18 months of age, and dog is mentally mature at 24 months of age, and a dog reaches full emotional maturity is 36 months.

Ami Moore The Dog Whisperer of Chicago

THE MARTYR TRAP

Many owners of difficult dogs are running around that terrible triangle of martyr-rescuer-persecuter. These types of people love their problem dogs more than their children, their spouse or even themselves.

Ami Moore The Dog Whisperer of Chicago

A BAD GAME OF TWISTER

Well, when you first rehabilitate a dog it begins like a bad game of Twister, but it always ends a Tango. Ami Moore The Dog Whisperer

PERFECTION

You don't have to be perfect to be an a good dog owner. I think that is what scares most dog owners from reaching out for help, the fear of being less than perfect. Ami Moore The Chicago Dog Whisperer

FROM TOGETHERNESS TO ONENESS

To really know your dog you have to grow up with a dog as your brother or sister. The essence  is the interrelating of all interests. Only in this way can simple togetherness be transformed into oneness, which comes from a desire to share their best with the dog.

The goal is for two hearts to beat as one. While dogs may no be on the same cognitive level as us, they are our equals on an emotional and spiritual level.

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer of Chicago

THE WORLD BEAT

In the womb, before you have a brain, your heart finds the rhythm of the world and keeps the beat. when you die; when your brain is dead, the heart tries to keep up with the World Beat until the very last. The heart sends out it's beat, it's signal, it's signature song; the heart song. And that is what I tune into as a dog whisperer. The heart with the strongest, truest, purest, best beat rules, so I make my beat the strongest. So, the first tool of a a dog whisperer is a pure heart.   Ami Moore The Dog Whisperer

THE ALPHA ROLL AND THE JELLY ROLL

The Alpha Roll is an exercise in social, physical, mental dominance and strength. As a social signal it telegraphs that all negotiations are now over. The Jelly Roll, on the other hand, is more about charming guile and flirtations. This is a social maneuver that is a thousand shades of gray, and thus leaves room for interpretation, negotiation and collaboration.

THE DARK SIDE OF DOGS

There is a "dark side" to the nature of dogs. I say that a dog has gone to the "dark side" when the dog has allowed fearfulness, nervousness or aggression to rule, to propel him into the danger zone. My job as a Dog Whisperer is to prevent a dog from getting seduced by the Dark Side of his nature.  Ami Moore The Chicago Dog Whisperer

WHAT DOGS LEARN

Dogs learn what they live, and then they live what they learn. Anon.

I AM THE DOG WHISPERER

I am often asked by potential students to define “dog whisperer” for them. On occasion, I’d take 2 minutes and other times I’d take 60, trying to condense this complicated term into a facile definition. Due to my own personal frustration in finding a complete definition of dog whispering, I finally just decided to sit down and really create a guide that would fully explain dog whispering; what it is, what it ain‘t,  to everyone‘s satisfaction, especially mine!

I am the Dog Whisperer. All too often I see you after a traumatic experience with your dog, when you are scared and upset. You call me to rescue you from chaos and insanity, but it is already too late.

Your life is in shambles, the neighbors hate you, a child is disfigured, the victim is pressing charges, the police are at the door, and your home is at risk.   I, however, can't turn back the hands of time and prevent the fatal attack, but I can help you and your family move forward and plan for tomorrow. I am the Dog Whisperer.

When your heart is broken, I'm quickly on the scene. I will repair the lost hope; rekindle the loving feeling that you once had toward your dog.  In time, I will help you learn to trust your dog again, and I will help you dog learn to trust in you once more. I am the Dog Whisperer.

Sometimes you are frustrated with the inconvenience and expense of having to hire me. But when you call, I will be right there with the tools and training to resolve your dog training concern so that you, your family and your community can feel safe and secure. I am the Dog Whisperer.

I am available to help you house train your little Christmas puppy. I am there to place the missing obedience training on your out of control, hormonally driven adolescent dog so that he can stop jumping up on Grandma.

We can help the shelter or rescue dog fit into your lifestyle easily, safely and sanely. Even though you may have picked a dog that does not fit in with your lifestyle: it's too big, too mean, too hyper, with my training and gentle touch, I can make sure that the dog learns to follow your direction. I am the Dog Whisperer.

In the best of all worlds, you will call me to help you with your new spring time puppy, you'd call me to help you pick the right dog from the shelter and you'd call me to so that I could talk you out of purchasing that puppy from the pet store.  I offer products and services to help protect that which is  yours. I read magazines, attend seminars and belong to trade groups so that I can increase my knowledge and my ability to help you solve your problems. I am the Dog Whisperer.

I am a Dog Whisperer. I am a psychologist, a teacher, a poet, a shaman, an artist, a preacher, a parent. I deal with people that are upset and dogs that are upset; I calm the savage beast within each one of you. I have been trained to secure and protect your children, your home, your assets and even your life.  I have devoted my life to help you have the American Dream; a happy  family with a happy dog.

Who Am I? I am an Animal Rights Activist. I believe that animals have the right to be educated so that they can fit into our modern life. I believe that it is inhumane and immoral to have an untrained, uneducated dog that is a danger to the family and the community. Our domestic dog has the right to have the kindest, the best, the most effective, most humane training tools and methods used for their education, so that every dog in America can have the greatest of gifts; a good and loving home.

Who Am I?   I am a Pro-Choice Activist. People have the right to have all training tools and training methods at their disposal so that they can make an informed choice as to what tools, techniques and tips will work best with their dog, their lifestyle and their personality.

Who Am I?  I am a Pro-Life Activist. I believe that murdering dogs for bad behavior when a particular training tool or training technique fails them. If one training tool or technique fails, then the dog and the owner have the right to seek relief and rehabilitation  from other dog professionals that may use alternative techniques.

Who Am I? I am Pro-Traditional Family Values. Good families deserve to own good dogs. Good dogs are dogs that are well-mannered, tolerate children, are polite to strangers and do not poop, pee or bite where or when it is inappropriate. Good dogs create good families,  good families create good neighborhoods, and good neighborhoods create good cities.

Who Am I? I support Breed Tolerance. All breeds can be trained and educated to be good family members, good community members and assets to our modern life. I despise Breed Bigots, the radical elements in American society that claim a dog’s breed matters more than his behavior. Punish the deed, don’t exterminate the breed.

Who Am I? I am against “The Culture of Death” pushed by PETA, HSUS, ALF, ELF and other domestic animal rights al-queada groups. These groups are committed to the complete extermination of the domestic dog in good, loving, American families.

Who Am I?  I defer to Mother Nature, for she always knows best. The best way to rehabilitate a dog is to treat it like a dog, not like us. The dog is born on to this planet to experience life as a dog, not a person. Mother Nature is always right, always appropriate and never makes mistakes. So if you communicate with a dog in his language respecting the particulars of his dog culture, then a good dog is always the result.

Who Am I?  I am a Fido Freedom Fighter: I believe that dogs think and feel much like people do. I do not believe that the dog is a  unthinking, unfeeling, “black box” that operates on a simple reward/punishment paradigm. I know  that the dog dreams, the dog remembers, the dog thinks and that the dog has a soul; in his own doggie way.  I believe that dogs deserve to have as much freedom as good manners and good grooming will allow them in our modern lives, which means well mannered dogs should be allowed everywhere. I believe that good dog training should not be a crime. I am the Dog Whisperer.

COMMIT TO THE SIT

You have to get your dog to commit to the sit. Your dog has got to do the do, whenever and where ever you say. If the dog won't commit to the sit, then he isn't committed to you. Ami Moore The Dog Whisperer

Ami Moore The Dog Whisperer of Chicago

THE LINE FOR PUBLIC ACCESS FOR DOGS

> Where is the line between 'thou shall not bring dogs here to this public place' and 'I'd prefer not to interact with dogs here in this public place'? It may behoove us to know the difference, and respect it.>

The line lies at my side, in heel position. If I have my dog with me in a public place where it is either allowed regularly or if I've obtained permission, that's just where I expect her to stay.

Anyone not caring to interact with her does not have to do so. They don't have to pet her or touch her, and she will not reach out and touch anyone without getting my permission first.

But if someone is going to get upset because of the mere PRESENCE of my dog, that’s tough. As long as I have to put up with screaming babies and children running around like wild animals in restaurants and airplanes, not to mention certain perfumes which some ladies wear (and men, on occasion) which cause me an instant migraine, I will be the first to remind folks that things are not always the way we want them.

At least my dogs are housebroken and quiet, which is more than I can say for most babies I've encountered. And they won't kick the back of your airplane seat for 4 hours, either.

There are folks out there who are so phobic about dogs, they'll literally scream when they see one in the hotel lobby, walking nicely with you on your way through the building. I've had it happen. That is not normal. I learned a long time ago not to brake for neurotics. Really. If the mere sight of a nice, well-trained dog sends you shrieking because it's under the same roof as yourself (or even quietly ruins your day), you've got a bigger problem than my removing the dog will fix.

DO respect people's rights to not be jumped upon, growled at, barked at, slobbered on or bitten, or to be exposed to skin parasites or disease or to be stepping in dog poop. My dogs consistently bring people much more joy than distress, so why should one unfortunate person with a phobia send them to the lock-up?
Tracy Doyle, D.O.T., Northern Illinois Dog Club

IN THE BEGINING

Alpha Attitude is everything, and it starts with how you feel. First, there is an emotion, then the thought, then the energy of those two things is projected outwards; in posture, sound, eye contact and intention.

Ami Moore, DW

THE NOW OF THE DOG

The dog is always living in the now, he is consistently, constantly aware. A dog knows what to do every time. If you want to change the behavior of the dog, you  the human must be clear of intent and pure of heart. You have to be right, right now. Ami Moore, DW

THE DOG AND DARK ENERGY

A dog that spends his time running away from you, is running away from cloudy, dark, dirty, chaotic energy. Dogs don't like danger or instability or insanity.  Ami Moore the DW

ENLIGHTENMENT

The vehicle of enlightenment is the dog, and the dog is nature itself. Since the dog is nature itself, the lessons are true and profound. The moment that you succumb to the lessons of the dog, they have transcended the age old confrontation of man against nature.

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer of Chicago

DOG COMMUNICATES

Once you understand how a dog communicates,

you understand how he thinks. Once you understand how he thinks, you can understand what is important to your dog. That's the key.

Ami Moore the DW

THE VIRUS

A trained dog is contagious, spread the bug! Ami Moore, DW

UNHEALTHY DOG OWNERS

Dog owners that like living with their unhappy, untrained dog are owners that like living in a sick environment. This environment always has the same characteristics; don't talk, don't trust and don't feel. The big problem is that system will fight to stay alive, it will kill to stay alive.

Ami Moore the DW

100% RESPONSIBILITY

You the human are 100% responsible for half of your relationship that you have with the dog. The dog is 100% responsible for his half of the relationship that he has with you, but you the human must move first.

Ami Moore the DW

DOGS ARE REMINDERS

Before we are born, the angels press a finger to our lips and tell us, "Remember, remember, don't forget what you know."  But, angels know people.  They have sent the dog to us, to help us to remember what we once knew. Dogs are carriers of the message. But they won't argue with you, or plead with you to listen to them. They will just be themselves, reflecting your true spiritual nature, until you notice that you don't like the picture. Ami Moore the DW

THE WRONG REASON TO GET A DOG

Many people get dogs to solve an unresolved problem from their childhood. They are seeking an external solution to an internal problem. Very, very bad for the dog.

These folks have a great, big, hot, stinky, smoldering pit where a heart should be, and they want to get a dog to stuff in there, so it doesn't hurt so much. Never works 'cause dogs can't handle the negative energy.

A dog can't give you the validation that should've come from your mother or father. A dog can't say, "You are okay, you are important, you are loveable, you are worth being cherished."   Ami Moore the DW

THE DOG AS EMOTIONAL WEATHER VANE

A dog is a simple gauge of your energy, and will reflect the real you right back at you. Working with a dog will help you tune into your truest, purest thoughts and feelings. A dog will show you where you are blocked, stagnant, broken  or  dead.  Ami Moore the DW

ANGER AND DOG TRAINING

Anger is a good emotion, it is like fire; a vehicle for transformation. Anger is pure energy, a healing energy. So feel the anger. Energize yourself with it. But, beware! Never use anger to hurt others and never use anger to hurt yourself. Ami Moore the DW

DOG TRAINING AND BEING BORN

I believe that for many dogs that are out of control at home, that becoming whole and balanced is much like being born. Some births are easy, some are hard; however once the process is started, there is no going back.

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer of Chicago

Dog Training Tools and Abortion

There is a lot of talk about banning one dog training tool or another. I feel the same way about dog training tools the same way I feel about abortion, "If you don't want one, then don't get one; and trust in the good sense of the average American."  Ami Moore The Dog Whisperer of Chicago

FIRE

A dog whisperer is like a spark, the fire, a flame.  It takes training and experience to control ones energy outflow so that neither the dog nor the whisperer does not get burned. Remember that the same flame that melts butter strengthens steel. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer of Chicago

DOGS RULE BY WHIM

Dogs can be very dangerous when they have control of a home. Dogs rule by whim, not reason. Ami the Dog Whisperer of Chicago

DOGMA OR THE DOG

"TEST-TRAIN-TEST. It is vital to confirm that behavior is changing in the
intended direction. If so, any discussion about will it work is irrelevant, and most discussion about why it works are moot."

DR IAN DUNBAR, founder of The APDT

A DOG WHISPERER AS TRANSFORMER

A dog whisperer is a transformer. If you were going to think of an element to represent the dog whisperer, it would be fire. Fire is the only element that changes all matter from one form to another. Fires is the only element that strengthens and enlightens. Water weakens. Air corrupts. Earth degrades.  Ami Moore the Chicago Dog Whisperer

THE FACTS OF LIFE

"It is a simple fact of life that (nearly) ALL owners will punish their dogs.
(Luckily few can even comprehend, let alone define,-R.) So, I think we need to teach owners how to punish in a manner which is "soft, sweet, loving, informative, and effective." DR. IAN DUNBAR, founder of APDT

THE DOG'S NATURAL NICHE

We, mankind, are the dog's natural ecological niche.

Ami Moore the Chicago Dog Whisperer

WILL AND GRACE

God's Will shall never lead you to a place where God's Grace will fail to protect you. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer of Chicago

THE DOG'S BLISS

Bliss for a dog is the walk or the hunt. That is when all of the energies of the dog are working, correctly, and in concert. Ami Moore The Dog Whisperer of Chicago

THE FEEDBACK

"The feedback inhibits that behavior and therefore is a punishment. I
only mentioned this example because many trainers are "scared" of punishments, thinking that they epitomize the "dark side" of training.

I simply wanted to make the point that punishments:

1. deliver valuable information,

2. can speed up the training process,

3. decrease frustration/stress,

4. AND, that they needn't be, AND SHOULDN'T BE, painful or scary." DR. IAN DUNBAR, Founder of APDT

AFFIRMATION OR TRUTH

Some dog owners seek out a trainer that will affirm/confirm their current actions or situation.  Other dog owner's contact a trainer to seek out the truth; the truth of themselves, and their dog.  Ami Moore the Chicago Dog Whisperer

THE RIGHTNESS OF SCIENCE

Science is always right up to the point someone shows there's
more that was previously known, or that what was previously known was
wrong.  ANON.

THE LOVING OWNER

I must always be wary of the owner that claims to love the dog and will do anything for the dog; except take control. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

THE SIT

The simple word "sit" can be a stimulus/cue/request/command (for dog),
response (from owner), instructive reprimand, instructive praise, negative
reinforcement, punishment, etc. etc.  Oh yes! Do we dog trainers need to redefine the terminology for learning theory when used in practice?

DR. IAN DUNBAR the FOUNDER OF APDT

THE GOLDEN RULE

People are taught,by their mothers, their governments and their churches to live by the "Golden Rule".  Dogs are born to live by the "Law of the Jungle". Big difference in energy, intention, and power.  Ami Moore the Chicago Dog Whisperer

COST

Rehabbing a dog with issues always takes longer, feels worse and costs more than your expectations. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer of Chicago

THE MO' BETTER BLUES

All wild things are born singing the "Mo' Better Blues', even your dog. Make sure that him going for his "happy"; doesn't get you in hot water.

Ami Moore the Chicago Dog Whisperer

THE MOST POWERFUL PUNISHER IN THE WORLD

"The most powerful punishment in the world is a softly-delivered,
ultra-reliable command that is obeyed instantly by the dog."

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer  of  Chicago

REBEL WOMEN, WILD WOMEN, REAL WOMEN AND WILD DOGS

French fries, red wine and a pack of wild dogs. Real women eat, real woman drink, and real women carry the wild with them.

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer of Chicago

THE WISDOM WITHIN

"A dog is the physical manifestation of instinct, learning, reflexes, drives, sensitivities and the cunning ways of the wild.  Every puppy carries the universe within him, in his wolfish DNA.  Humans have artificial know-how. Dogs have wisdom.  Dog wisdom is stored inside the blood, bones; in nose, ears, eyes, teeth and paw. For the dog, every cell's the Internet. Every dog carries the universal canine unconscious within him. It is my job to plug-into the wisdom within".  Ami Moore the Chicago Dog Whisperer

THE GOOD DOG WITHIN

The "Good Dog" within has to be created, depending on your dog's age and temperament, this is much like an artist creating a work of art. The medium matters.   Puppies are like clay; soft, delicate, moldable, impressionable. Puppies need lots of molding-handling-support, in order to withstand the rigors of modern life, they need to be "fired and glazed" with leadership, education and activity.  Older dogs are like a piece of fine marble; the "Good Dog" is within, and it is my job to gently chip away at the bad behavior that hides the good dog from sight.

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer of Chicago

THE CRATE: Mother's Little Helper

"The crate is used as help. It  helps bridges two levels of responsibility for the dog; total freedom and total management. It helps the dog do right, think right, feel right, and act right.  When the dog shows you that he no longer needs "help" to remember his potty training, how to greet guests, how to behave around children, what to do when food is around; then he no longer needs the bridge. Until that day, that day when he no longer needs 'help' to get it right; be kind, not cruel, and use the crate."

Ami Moore the Chicago Dog Whisperer

THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GREY

Dogs are much like the picture of Dorian Gray. They reveal our deepest , most secret, most guarded emotional truths, but not by how they look. But rather by how they behave.  Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

ONES TRUE SELF

If you want to see the essence of a person's spirit, look no further than their dogs. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

COMMUNICATION

You have to work out a way for dogs to tell you the things that they know, and you don't.  Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

THE GREAT MISTAKE

A good dog whisperer never mistakes affection for respect.

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer of Chicago

RELIGION

Every dog is a prayer. Every walk a meditation.

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

DOG AS METAPHOR

Dogs are a great metaphor for personal development. Dogs hold a mirror to us everyday, reflecting every mental and emotional pimple. Dogs don't care about our egos. Dogs tell it like it is. A dog like no other living thing teaches us to become more than we are, because until we are what he needs us to be, he'll give us hell.

Ami Moore The Dog Whisperer of Chicago

THE VALLEY OF DEATH

Once I have created 'phfarphfenflugle' with the dog, that dog will follow me into the Valley of Death or over a cliff with his tail wagging.

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer of Chicago

THE ONE SKILL EVERY URBAN DOG NEEDS

"In order to survive in our world, the modern dog needs one skill above all others; the ability to do "nothing" well and with grace. In other words to be invisible."   Ami Moore the Chicago Dog Whisperer

BLOOD AND BONE

'Blood and Bone' needs 'Blood and Bone' to be whole. What needs to be remembered is that the 'blood and bone' don't have to be from the same species. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer of Chicago

WHAT IS CONTAINED IN A DOG?

A dog contains everything you don't know, and are afraid of knowing.

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

A PART OF HIM

A puppy goes forth each and every day,and the first object that he sees, he becomes. He becomes that object; that person, place or thing. And it becomes a part of him for the day, or for many years, or forever.

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

NOT STIRRING

To know a dog one has to listen to things NOT stirring.

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

THE CRAZIES AND THE COWARDS

The dog's that have my sympathy, are the dog's that are owned by the  crazies. These are sometimes women of almost any age, on occasion a man, who own a small, fluffy dog that they treat as if it is a  human baby.

For this person the dog's primary purpose is to exist as an emotional surrogate. The dog is a crutch used to support the owner's neurotic tendencies. People who feel unloved, unneeded or unnoticed tend to direct their fear, anxiety, rage and insecurity at the dog. It appears as if they have this huge gaping hole in their spirit and they try to fill it up with a dog. It is as if they are drowning and they are holding onto the dog  for dear life. The problem for the dog is this; it ends up dead.

When they visit a dog trainer or behaviorist, every suggestion to treat the dog as a dog, and thus to create a calm, balanced, cooperative nature in the dog is met with wild-eyed hysteria; bug eyes, slack jaws, flared nostrils, all the while clutching the dog to their heaving chest, screeching at the top of their voice:

  • That's so MEAN.
  • I feel GUILTY.
  • I can't do that to my "BABY".
  • You wouldn't do that to a human, so you can't do that to my "BABY".
  • My "BABY" needs lots of LOVE.
  • That won't be FUN for ME.
  • That's not why I got "MY BABY"..
  • I WOULDN'T like that if I had to do that.
  • That is so CRUEL.
  • I want to raise "MY BABY" the way that I WANT.
  • My "BABY" won't LOVE ME if I do that.

This owner creates an unstable mind in the dog with a smothering, neurotic, permissive attitude. Unfortunately, the dog always reflects the owners mental, emotional, and spiritual state, thus the dog becomes hideous, monstrous, and even dangerous.

Then, the owner's life changes; they get married, get divorced, get pregnant, get a job, get therapy, get medicated, get thin, get new carpeting or whatever, and the dog becomes an expendable nuisance. Since the owner no longer "feels" unloved, unneeded, unnoticed; he or she no longer needs the dog. But, the dog is ruined. So the dog ends up dead.

Ami Moore the Chicago Dog Whisperer

THE COWARD WITH A KISS

"Crazies kill the dogs they love; Sometimes slowly, sometimes quick.

The Evil do it with a smile, the Coward with a kiss".

Ami Moore the Chicago Dog Whisperer

MOTHER NATURE

You can't fool Mother Nature, she has no pity. She always finds and exploits the hidden flaw. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

THE DOG AS THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE

Dogs raised to believe that they are the Center of The Universe,

grow to fill that void, and eventually there won't bee room in it for anyone else, even you, the owner.  Ami Moore the Chicago Dog Whisperer

THE DOG AND FEAR

The dog is born knowing only one kind of fear; the fear of the unknown. Any other fear is either imagined or learned. The job of a dog whisperer is to make the fearful person, place or thing "known" to the dog, and by doing so, build a stronger relationship with the dog.  The goal is for the dog to conquer the fearful unknown, without force or bribe, simply because I have told him to do so. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

PFARPFENFLUGLE

Pfarpfenflugle makes me think of the  real beginning, after Eden.  Man and dog are on the plains of Africa, or the tundra of  the Arctic, or the great grasslands of America. There is man (lean, mean, hungry) with his sharp stick, and his companion; the ring-tailed, floppy-eared, spotty-dotty wolf-dog, hanging at his heels.  No collars. No leashes. No clickers. No cookies.    Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

STATES OF MIND IN THE DOG

A dog can display one of three states of mind.

The first is Confusion, it sounds like, "No, No, Don't hurt me."

The second is Conflict-Confrontation, "Talk to the paw!"

And the third is Cooperation, "Yes, Ma'am".

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer of Chicago

DOGS AND SUBURBIA

You have to have sympathy for dogs.

They are children of nature; creatures of the concrete and the physical; forced to live in a world of the abstract and the emotional.

THE DOG'S INNER WOLF

If you want to get your dog in touch with his "Inner Wolf" then teach him two things; to use his nose and to retrieve.

Ami Moore the Chicago Dog Whisperer

THE DOGGIE BALL AND CHAIN

Well, when you are sick and tired of dragging your dog around on that six foot ball and chain, call me. I'll set you and your dog free.

Ami the Dog Whisperer

DOG AND WOLF/MAN AND MONKEY

Scientists say that there is just a 2% difference between dog and wolf.

The same difference that there is genetically between man and monkey.

A small difference, yet a great and important difference. It can be the difference between life and death.       Ami Moore the  Dog Whisperer

Sometimes you get satisfaction, and sometimes you just get paid.

THE MODERN SAMURAI

The modern dog trainer is the closest in spirit to the Japanese Samurai.

He is well schooled on the use of the equipment his craft requires that he master, but he is not helpless without them.

Like the Ninja, he can succeed with will and talent alone. The body, the force, are his true tools.

He borrows freely from other disciplines to perfect his craft:  the poet, the philosopher, the sculptor, the geisha, the mathematician, the priest, the physician, the detective, the teacher, the alchemist.

DEAD DOG WALKING

Until Shep defers to you he cannot be trained. Whoever owns him, rich or poor, whatever expectations, lifestyle, myths and dreams his owners have; whatever hopes, ambitions and/ or brilliance's Shep might possess; the untrained dangerous Shep is a "Dead Dog Walking".

DOGS AND THE GUITAR

Like the guitar, the dog has changed shape, size and color so that he can always remain close to man and near his heart.

DOGGIE PIXIE DUST

The retrieve helps fearful dogs find their courage,

helps shy dogs become bold,

helps angry dogs become calm,

helps aggressive dogs to become sweet,

helps stubborn dogs find a reason to work with you and not against you.

It creates order when before, there was only chaos.  The trained retrieve is the closest thing to "pixie dust" that I have in my toolkit.

THE ONE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DOG AND WOLF

The difference between the dog and a wolf is only one thing, the ability to accept restraint.  A wolf will struggle against a rope/a pen/a tight collar, until dead or exhausted.  A well-trained dog masters one great trick; move into the pressure-go with the flow.  Ami the Dog Whisperer

Ami the Dog Whisperer

THE THREE ESSENTIAL INGREDIANTS

There are usually three essential ingredients that one must discover in order to connect with the dog: the eyes, energy and intention. These tell the dogs story. Once you know a dogs' story, you know the dog.

Ami the Dog Whisperer

THE GREAT CONVERSATION

The world consists of trainer and dog. There's no room for anything else. One's lover, children, disabilities, political beliefs, income, shock  collar, human kindness, clicker or hopes for resurrection are inconsequential: it's you and that dog. Soren Kierkegaard titled a book: "Purity of Heart is Willing One Thing."  Every dog understands that from birth.   Donald McCaig

THE DOG AND HIS STORY

If you give the dog time, he'll tell you his story, his way; the beginning, the middle and the end. But, you want the whole story; not bits and pieces.

DOGS AND THE WEATHER

Dogs are like weather to a sailor. You don't need wind direction, wind speed, or barometric pressure. You need the forecast. Only the dog has his forecast. Great empires have been lost due to a piss poor forecast. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

THE CONTRARY DOG TRAINER

Other dog trainers call me 'contradictory' or 'confounding' or 'contrary'. That is fine by me, especially since the next thing that they do is call me up to try to steal my secrets! Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

THE INNER CAVEMAN

If you channel your inner cave man, you'll never go wrong.

THE DOG AND SUBTRACTION

I look at a dog, and I start subtracting. I want to whittle the dog down to the 2 or 3 essential elements that are the core of him. The rest is just distraction or static. Then, I make those 2 or 3 things..BIG.

Ami the Dog Whisperer

THE ESSENCE OF DOGS

Simplify, Simplify, Simplify. Get to the essence of dogs.

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

DOGS, GEE-GAWS, DOO-DADS AND GAGETS

The more equipment you have on a dog (collars, head halters, harnesses, straps, bells, whistles and clickers), the less of that dog is under your control.  At most, all you have is a insecure grip on the physical body.

But not a  real connection. Not a mental connection, not an emotional connection, definitely not a spiritual connection.

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

DOGS, WASHING MACHINES AND CARS

People get dogs and think that dogs are going to fit into their lives more or less like washing machines. You get it home, plug it in, and more or less ignore it; you pay attention to it once a week or so, when you need your clothes washed. But, really dogs are more like cars; they require constant tending and maintenance. You have to check the oil, take it around the block every so often, put gas in the tank and wash it every once in a while. If you don't maintain your car, it won't work right. Like dogs.
Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

BORN SELFISH

The dog is born "selfish." Like your Washington Politician, the dog is always asking himself, "What's in it for me?"  Ami Moore

MORE THAN OBEDIENCE

Bringing to hand objects that the dog may or may not value, whether he is in the mood to do it or not, is reversing the dog's natural selfishness. Teaching the dog to bring you things, and to place them in your hand, when you say, teaches more than just "obedience".

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

THE DOG AND "NO"

I don't ever permit my dog to say "No", no matter if we are talking
about a stupid pet trick or a recall.

The domestic dog does not understand the concept of "sometimes".

To a dog, either I am the one whose orders you obey or I'm not. There is no middle ground.  Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

SHADES OF GREY

For dogs, the world is either 'always' or 'never'. Shades of gray create instability and insanity. The craziest dogs that I have ever seen are dogs that lived in a world colored 'in shades of gray'.

A MASTER....

A master in the art of living draws no sharp distinction between his work and his play; his labor and his leisure; his mind and his body; his education and his recreation. THE DIFFERENCE BEWEEN PRAISE AND PETTING

Petting must start in your heart, before it comes out your fingers. And I go on to tell my classes how it must be administered, "Think backrub. If you don't know what backrub is supposed to feel like, get naked, lie down, I'll show you." I guess they all know. Nobody has ever stripped at class.

Praise is a different thing entirely. It also must start in the heart. That's so the mouth will know how to let it out.

Praise can be soft or not.

It can be urgent or cajoling.

It can be patient.

It can be pleading.

It can be many things, but it must be what the dog needs at the moment.

Petting is reward. Praise is help.

HUGS AND KISSES

THE GUILTY DOG OWNER AND THE DOG

"Guilt is an emotion humans use to make themselves feel better; more important, more ethical, more human, more like Mother Teresa. So, for the dog owner, guilt may have a very important function.

But, for the dog, an owner who is motivated by guilt is an executioner. A guilty owner keeps the dog weak, fearful and non-functional."

INTELLIGENCE OF DOG AND MAN
Aristotle thought that the intelligence of dogs and men differed primarily in degree.  Both had mental abilities and both had emotions.  In men they are simply better developed.  Saint Thomas Aquinas believed human and animal intelligence differed quantitatively rather than qualitatively.

Darwin did not agree with Descartes ideas concerning animals.  In The Descent of Man, he says that the only difference between the intelligence of men and that of lower mammals is one of degree and not of kind.

We are them.  They are us. Simple. Unspoiled. Creatures of the ID.

THE BEST DIET: BARF (Bio-Appropriate Raw Foods)

The best diet for man is to eat like a dog: raw meat, raw eggs, raw milk and cheese, good raw fats, raw fruits and berries when they are around. If you have to cook it, you shouldn't be eating it.

Since dogs bury food, and burying food either freezes it, ferments it or dries it out; foods that are frozen, dehydrated and fermented are fine.

So enjoy your wine, beer, sourdough bread and sauerkraut.

CHARITY AND DOGS

"A bone to the dog is not charity. Charity is the bone shared with the dog, when you are just as hungry as the dog." - Jack London

REINFORCEMENT

There is reinforcement and enforcement, two sides of the same coin. One is the brake and one is the gas. You need both in order to get where you need to be.  Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer of Chicago

DOGS AND WOLFS

WHY THE WOLF? HE PLAYS!

Wolves play with their pups and with each other.  Wolves play tag.  They hide and jump out at each other for no apparent reason except to have fun. Maybe the domestication of the wolf had less to do with the wolf's ability to guard a cave, or make a tasty snack, or chase the moose; rather than his playful spirit. Maybe we wanted the wolf around because he made the women and children laugh. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer.

LAUGHING DOGS

"Dogs laugh, but they laugh with their tails. What puts man in a higher state of evolution is that he has got his laugh on the right end."

A really companionable and indispensable dog is an accident of nature, a freak. You can't get it by breeding for it, you can't go out looking for it, and you can't buy it with money. This dog just happens along. It's a dog you choose "by heart." Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

WHEN A DOG TELLS YOU "NO!"

When a dog tells you "No!" you had better have a good reply.

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

BULLDOGS
"Bulldogs are adorable, with faces like toads that have been sat on."

- Colette

DOGS DON'T KNOW BETTER

"I think we are drawn to dogs because they are the uninhibited creatures we might be if we weren't certain we knew better." - George Bird Evans

WAGGING TAIL?

When a dog wags her tail and barks at the same time, how do you know which end to believe?  Always believe the end with the teeth!" -

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

TRAINING

Train with the end result firmly in mind. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

BE AUTIFUL...

Small is beautiful, Slow is beautiful. Simple is Beautiful.

Doggie Wabi-Sabi is the way.  Ami the Dog Whisperer

DOGS AND BECOMING

Dog training is about becoming. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

GOD AND DOG

The dog is God's 'Irreducible Minimum'. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

NATURE AND NEUTRAL

Nothing in Nature is neutral; it either hurts or heals.

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

WORK AND PURPOSE

In order to train a good dog well, you need "The Hill" or "The River" or "The Sea" or "The Forest."  Barring those essentials, "The Walk" will have to do.      -Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

THE CONFESSION

In many ways, I am like priest or rabbi or a girly Dr. Phil. It is my job to come into your home and to extract the confession. The confession is that you, the dog owner, are responsible for the dog that you have created.

Then, you must concede that what you were doing before has not worked, is not working now, and you are ready and willing to change your system. Finally, I can get to work. We can rehab the dog.

Ami Moore the Chicago Dog Whisperer

WHAT IS A DOG WHISPERER

"A dog whisperer communicates with the dog on the most concrete and physical, the most primal, the most real of levels, the gut: stay alive and reproduce.

  • The dog owner tends to relate to the dog from the heart, in an emotional and abstract manner: cookies, kuddles and kisses.
  • The veterinarian, the scientist, the animal behaviorist, dog counselor, canine therapist tend to relate to the dog intellectually, academically, and without passion; from the head.
  • Dogs, however, operate from the gut first, and the heart second.  They are unable to operate from the intellect until the first two levels have been breached.

Remember, dogs are what they sense and feel, not what they think.  You have to meet a dog where he lives, his gut and then where he loves, his heart."   Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

HE IS NOT THAT INTO YOU!

So many women go out of their way to lavish, love, treats, pets and kisses on their dog, and yet at the end of the day, "The dog is just not in to them".  Loser-tude™ does not work on men or dogs.

Ami the Dog Whisperer

LOW EXPECTATIONS

More dogs die from low expectations, permissive rearing and a lack of standards than anything else. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

SUBSTITUTES

Try not to substitute will for sensitivity, brute force for talent.

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

RESPECT

I need to respect the dog. When respect breaks down, things go to Hell in a hurry. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

FAITH

My job is to make sure that the dog never looses faith in me, in the task,  or in themselves. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

THE SICK HAS BECOME NORMAL

I am afraid of our culture today. We are so out of touch with Nature, that the bad, the sick, the deranged has become normal.

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

DOGS AND CHILDREN

When you live apart from Nature, you begin to fear it. That is why Americans are afraid of dogs and children. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

THE ESSENCE OF DOG TRAINING

The essence of dog training is three things: Follow, Come and Wait.

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

DOGS AND BALANCE

When I train a dog, I want to restore balance. With the owner, I restore order with Alpha-tude, Amiability, Activity and Affection.

MORE WHOA OR MORE GO

In regard to the dog, I find that some dogs have more whoa than go, or more go than whoa; some dogs are too sticky, and some dogs are too loose. Too much is a problem and too little is a problem.

The dog must learn these skills in order to be balanced: to come, to go;

to get, to give; to get down and to get back.   These are indications of submission, surrender and serenity. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

THE DRIVES OF THE DOG

The dog has three drives that make it so: Prey Drive, the Will to Please and the Will to Power. Ami the Dog Whisperer

DOGS AND WORK

Dogs are made balanced by real work: the hill, the river, the forest, and the town. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

PREY AND CONTROL

Remember that the prey controls the predator.

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

THE DOG AND SIN

The only unforgivable sin in a dog is quitting.

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

RUNNING OUT OF DOG

Try not to put you, or your dog in a situation where you find yourself short on dog. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

NATURES STANDARDS

A good breeder replicates Nature's high standards: the weak, the witless, the infertile must die. Ami Moore The Dog Whisperer

THE SOUL OF THE DOG

A wild, roaming dog has no soul. A dog locked in a backyard or trapped on a chain has no soul.  Only by being loved by a human, living with a human and having a job gives a dog his soul. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

WORK WITHIN THE LIMITS

With a fearful or aggressive dog, one must work within, and yet against the limits.   Ami the Dog Whisperer

THE TAIL AND THE TRUTH

The tail tells the truth, if the tail ain't right, the dog ain't right.

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

TAILS AND EYES

Tails and eyes = heart and soul. Ami the Dog Whisperer

FLOWER AND WEEDS

Where you plant a flower, a weed can not grow. ANON

GOOD DOG, BAD DOG

A good dog is like a well loved garden, a bad dog is like a jungle.

-Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

TREAT TRAINING

Treat training appeals to the dogs dark, carnal nature. "Tap and Tell" activates the dogs 'angel' nature.

It is like the difference for men between "love" and "lust."  These two different states of mind occupy very different parts of the human male's brain.

Lust is animalistic, carnal, base, dark; while love activates all of the parts of man and dog that were made by the Divine.

Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

COOKIE TRAINING

Cookie training is like cheap, easy sex; fun for the moment, but it does not create respect or relationship. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

STATE OR STAGE

When a dog misbehaves, it is best to determine if it is a state or a stage. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

COMMUNICATION

It is always best to make sure that the message you are sending is the same message that the dog is receiving. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

DOG CULTURE

Dog culture is a culture where small gestures have great meanings; a culture where a little goes a long, long way. This culture is a conservative culture that values play, prey and peace. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer

DOGS AND THE GEISHA

Dogs and the Geisha have much in common: beauty, ritual and stillness. Two cultures that value ritual more than reality; beauty more than truth.   Ami Moore the Chicago Dog Whisperer

CLICKER TRAINING and CALMING SIGNALS

...I am absolutely, totally and completely against clicking for calming signals.  You can do it, but then they are not calming signals anymore - they are  just tricks, and as tricks they can be OK as such, but are completely useless as automatic, inborn signals used out of the emotions dogs may have at the moment.

The danger about it is that the dogs get frustrated about their own
language. I have so far never seen a good result of clicking for calming
signals, they are used so automatically that the dogs do not even know they are using them sometimes, so the clicking will often be associated with totally different things: like looking at, standing still, or whatever.

Do not mess with nature. Let dogs use their language without us trying to improve it or whatever it is we are doing.... Turid Rugass

CLICKER TRAINING = EMOTIONAL ABUSE

...So also with clicker training, which in many cases is too stressful for
dogs. I do not say always, but often, and taking away possible stress
triggers means clicker training also should go together with all the other
possible stress factors.

Try to go through being clicker trained yourself, and you will understand
what I mean. It feals awful, and very stressful. Often. And again I do
not say always.

You are thinking very logically, but this has also to do with emotions, and the expectations, and the uncertainty of what is being wanted, is the highest stress factor in clicker training. Some can take some of it, but observing dogs being clicker trained, I see more dogs being stressed by it than not.  Turid Rugass

WOLVES AND THE CIRCLE OF LIFE

Weak, lame, or unstable wolves are removed from the pack ruthlessly. If they aren't killed outright by pack members, they are cast-out to live on their own, where they usually starve.

People on the other hand tend to want to keep the weak, sick, insane or unstable dogs alive and even breed from them, and this contributes to the destruction of the dog. Ami Moore, DW

RULES, LIMITATIONS AND THE WAY OF THE WOLF

Wolfs cherish peace and young wolves fighting in the pack are disciplined swiftly and firmly. A healthy wolf pack depends on leadership, strict rules, and a willingness to remove weak, sick, unstable or insame members for the greater good. Ami Moore, DW

DOGS AND HEALING

Dogs heal you from the inside out, not the outside in. Ami Moore, DW
